Brendan Rothwell

Instrumental in the Art and Business of Music

Brendan is an accomplished Anglo-Canadian bassist, composer and producer. With extensive global radio airplay and multi-million streams across the primary digital platforms, his music and brand captivates his growing audience. The trigger and driving force for his decision to play the bass was the 1986 album from Miles Davis,“Tutu”, featuring the great Marcus Miller. The art of business and leadership drives all of Brendan’s projects, and he firmly believes in applying a business mindset to the industry of music.

With the increasing prominence of his brand and signature sound, Brendan has been invited to record on original tracks with well-known artists from the contemporary jazz world. These include New York guitarist Reza Khan, Miami saxophonist Wayne Gutshall, and most recently Miami artist and Grammy-nominated vocalist Sylvia Bennett.

Brendan’s debut recording “Time On My Hands” (Independent, 2016) quickly attracted interest from global radio stations. With a fast-growing audience, the popularity of the debut single “This Is the Love” secured the album placement on several of the global “Best Of…” annual contemporary jazz charts in 2017 and 2018, and a place in the hearts of the listeners.

Following the success of his debut recording, Brendan took a step up with the release of “Sentiment” (Independent. Global release 02/14/2019). With 11 tracks of bass-focused contemporary jazz, this album displays a unique and genuine identity. On this entirely solo recording, Brendan once again optimizes the tone, scale, feeling and musicality of the bass, bringing it to the foreground as a lead instrument to develop meaning and depth.

The lead single “Keep On Keepin’ On” held the #1 position on the smoothjazz.com global charts through June and July 2019, making Brendan the first independent artist to hit #1 simultaneously on all three smoothjazz.com charts. The track “Think of You” was released as a single and selected as a featured track on the Sirius XM Watercolors show “The Dave Koz Lounge” in June 2020. The album secured placement on the primary “Best Of…” annual contemporary jazz charts in 2019, 2020 and 2021.

Brendan uses his 3rd album “DESTINY” (Independent, 2022) as a platform to expand his signature sound. The album’s 12 diverse tracks feature increased use of electric and acoustic piano, the instrument that began Brendan’s life-long dedication to music.

In addition to composing and recording original music, Brendan also hosts the “Basement Jazz” show every Saturday at 6pm PST on worldwidejazzradio.com.
